Crazy Sexy Adventure Day 11: Kittens, Oatmeal, Veggies, Yoga

My friend Jessie is a new yoga teacher and wanted some head shots but the only time that worked was early in the a.m. For convenience sake, I slept over after yoga last night and we were up bright and early to get some pictures of her pretty face.

I packed a green juice. Nerd.

We took a quick snap, snap, met some nice people with a bag of kittens.

Literally a bag full of kittens.

Once I arrived home I ate some delicious overnight oats in an almost empty peanut butter jar with tonnes of fruit and a little sprinkle of granola.

I had a pretty lazy morning which included laundry and a Girls marathon. I had a late lunch of curried lentil soup and a giant salad. I also had some Mary’s Crackers on the side.

Eventually I peeled myself off of the couch and headed to yoga.

My mom once told me that when living in New York she often enjoyed the Hallmark slice of street car pizza for lunch. One day, her boss came to work with TWO slices for herself. The thought had never occurred to my mom that one could eat TWO slices of pizza. I think of that every time I do a yoga double. 4:10 ishta + 6:10 Hot (half an hour in-between classes). Crazy Sweaty Bliss.

Once I got home I threw together some sautéed veggies, brown rice noodles and a generous serving of spicy almond butter sauce.

Goodnight!

Pain in the Neck

This morning my alarm went off a 5:45 a.m. I turned it off, blinked, and it was 6:38 a.m. Drat. I was planning on leaving for my exam by 7 but I postponed my departure until 7:20.

I had the perfect breakfast for a kind of rushed morning

Overnight Oats in a Jar

~Oats, greek yogurt, soymilk, flax, (I’ve decided I like my o-n-oats sans yogurt, I much prefer gooey, flaxy milk), raisins~

this morning –> pinch of granola and brown sugar.

Who can tell me why my first 7 bites were gross?

I forgot the banana ?!! Fixed that with a quick peel and slice

Even still, couldn’t finish the whole jar for breakfast (exam anxiety), but the left overs made a dandy afternoon snack!

Despite my late wake, I still made it to the exam site 50 minutes early! I wasn’t sure how long it would take me to get there, and Calgary transit is SO unreliable, and people are constantly getting hit by trains (I wish I was kidding, for their sake and mine) causing delays that last for hours. In any case, better 50 minutes early than 5 minutes late!

The exam went fine. I took my time and really thought every question through… for the first ten questions, until I realized I was half way through my time and only a quarter of the way through the exam! I’ve never felt rushed during an exam and never understood how people could sit until the last call, well, now I do.

Lunch was snacky since I didn’t have much time to pack it this morning!

Piece of bread, hand full of chickpeas, baby cucumbers, hunk of cheese, hummus, apple

Afterwards I went for a much-needed massage. YES.

On Saturday, I went to yoga and we did a little

and

I left class feeling great, but my upper back started feeling sore through the night, and when I woke up I instinctively moved right into downward dog and heard shhhhchhhk at the very tip of my spine, tumbled over and have spent the last five days with an extremely stiff neck and limited range of motion (there has been quite a bit of optic nerve stretching this week) with burning sensations, numbness and NAUSEA as follow up symptoms. It was a nasty!

I am slightly melodramatic, but the pain in my face is REAL. Ouch.

Of course I made sure to do plenty of neck stretching, poking at pressure points, apply ice packs, heating pads and I only had ONE Advil, I’m proud to say. But only an hour of intense muscle pinching, pulling and pressurizing (not a word) would bring me back to normal.

My crunchy neck literally melted in the hands of  my massage therapist. Neck cricks are the worst! I distinctly remember the first time I ever experienced one. It was my second day of grade 10, my mom was dropping me at the bus stop and I SNEEZED, and my neck seized up.The rest is history, since then, I get them several times a year and each time I have to convince myself that it’s not a herniated disc or pinched nerve.

Dinner: Honourable mention

Baked Salmon, Baked Tilapia (mom made it = I don’t know what was in it = SO delicious), baked potato+hummus/greek yogurt/salsa, mushrooms, spinach, tomato slices. I’m one of those annoying people who packs their food onto a salad plate and I think it’s time I cut it out. I know what portion control looks like. Big plate or small! Big plate = nobody falls overboard while I’m eating.

Now, if you don’t mind, I think I’m quite ready for my summer to officially begin! Tomorrow.

Mole

My  day started like this:

Yogurt Mess in a Jar with a side of blog reading. Yum and Yum.

Did some work for my Language Arts class, when I start facing writers block, I just pretend that I’m a really amazing, analytical writer. It usually gets me another sentence or two until I need to do it again.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, lunch at home is SUCH a treat.

Wrap -salsa, feta, lentil walnut loaf, sprouts, laughing cow cheese edamame, orange, cherries

Later, my mummah and I went to hot yoga at a new studio that we wanted to try out because I had 50% off passes. It was Power Baptist which was essentially part Bikram, part Ashtanga part glorrrrrious. I nearly drowned in my own sweat.

Came home and headed straight for the kitchen. Would you believe me if I told you this tastes like a chocolate-cherry milkshake?

Frozen banana, cherries, cocoa powder, chia seeds, almond milk, spinach

That’s ok, I’m still your friend. They really are delicious though.

Hey, Mole. Moley Moley Moley

Rainy days and Tuesdays

Ok, now I’m complaining.

This weather is fine if I’m planning on hermiting myself inside my house all day, baking cookies and watching R.E.N.T. (exactly what I did yesterday) but today I needed to move on to civilization, go to class, go to yoga, go to EVENING class. I’m rebelling against my better judgement and wearing ripped up sweat pants and my Lululemon jacket that could have used a wash. But I have eyeliner on so it cancels all that other stuff out. Right?

All the cookie baking that went on yesterday was for a good cause! Remember that race I’m running and raising money for? Well, my cousins own a little cafeteria at the University research center here and I made a bunch of cookies for them to sell there will all proceeds going to donations for the race. FUN.

Banana Bread Cookies, Peanut Butter Cookies, No-Bake Granola Balls

My cousin is also a mehndi artist and she’ll be raising money too by offering mehndi to customers.

with all the baking I did with peanut butter yesterday, I all but finished off an entire jar! You know what that meeeaannns

Oats In A Jar!!!!

This made today a fraction better.

No Need to Rinse

Phewf! My first councelling session went pretty great, my instructor said she thinks I’ll be very successful if nutrition coaching is the rout I want to take. I’m not sure that it is, but it’s good to know I could!

I got dressed up in my big girl clothes.

and ate the breakfast that the overnight-oat fairies were working hard at while I slept.

Last night I mixed:

  • oats
  • greek yogurt
  • almond milk
  • ground flax
  • vanilla
and put it into an almost empty peanut butter jar to soak overnight.
This morning, I added banana slices, chopped walnuts and dried cranberries.
I was a little too eager to have my oats in a jar, there was easily over two tablespoons of peanut butter residue spread out on the inside and I couldn’t finish it! So I left a little bit behind, my stomach was already feeling a little iffy because I was nervous for the nutrition coaching.

I finished the jar off as soon as I got home from the gym.

Obviously, the only reason that I make sure to scrape the inside completely clean is so that I don’t have to waste water rinsing it out before I recycle it. You know me… little miss tree-hugger.
