Crazy Sexy Adventure Day 11: Kittens, Oatmeal, Veggies, Yoga

My friend Jessie is a new yoga teacher and wanted some head shots but the only time that worked was early in the a.m. For convenience sake, I slept over after yoga last night and we were up bright and early to get some pictures of her pretty face.

I packed a green juice. Nerd.

We took a quick snap, snap, met some nice people with a bag of kittens.

Literally a bag full of kittens.

Once I arrived home I ate some delicious overnight oats in an almost empty peanut butter jar with tonnes of fruit and a little sprinkle of granola.

I had a pretty lazy morning which included laundry and a Girls marathon. I had a late lunch of curried lentil soup and a giant salad. I also had some Mary’s Crackers on the side.

Eventually I peeled myself off of the couch and headed to yoga.

My mom once told me that when living in New York she often enjoyed the Hallmark slice of street car pizza for lunch. One day, her boss came to work with TWO slices for herself. The thought had never occurred to my mom that one could eat TWO slices of pizza. I think of that every time I do a yoga double. 4:10 ishta + 6:10 Hot (half an hour in-between classes). Crazy Sweaty Bliss.

Once I got home I threw together some sautéed veggies, brown rice noodles and a generous serving of spicy almond butter sauce.

Goodnight!

Crazy Sexy Adventure Day One: So many green things.

Today kicked off my first day of the crazy sexy adventure cleanse. It wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies, but I see some serious potential and lessons to be learned in the near future.

I woke up and had a glass of hot lemon water with a pinch of cayenne. I’ve been doing this for a while actually and it makes a world of difference for my digestion (gross)

Breakfast, about an hour later, was a smoothie with cucumber, romaine, one banana, three strawberries, 2 tbsp. chia seeds and half a cup each of coconut water and almond milk.

I won’t lie. This tasted like death and sadness. I was in a hurry to get to work and drank it anyways but I think I’ll stick to my regular recipes for vegan smoothies: Banana based with kale or spinach with almond milk and nut butter. I’d rather munch on extra cucumber and romaine at lunch time than choke it down in a smoothie. Live and learn, I suppose.

Lunch was a giant massaged kale salad. I don’t know if I’m massaging my kale properly. I gave about two cups of torn up kale a good rub down with lemon tahini dressing and let it sit over night to break down even further. I added red peppers, cucumber, snap peas, chickpeas, walnuts and green olives this morning.

Great tasting but the texture was kind of off. Maybe I just prefer my kale in chip form or lightly steamed.

After work I took a hot restorative class. I fell asleep through every single hold.

The amount of food I ate today was fine with the lack of activity in my day but on days that I exercise I will be eating much more food. What I find interesting about eating vegan (I did a 7 day vegan challenge a while back) is that I am so focused on getting enough nutrition that I barely consider calories or sugar or grams of this and that. I’m much more in tune with my body and hunger cues.

Throughout the day I snacked on an apple, jicama with lemon juice and cayenne and mary’s crackers with hummus and finally, dinner was zucchini noodles with broccoli, peppers, snap peas and carrots in a spicy almond butter sauce

Over all, my stomach feels better than usual. I was definitely a little tired today. A little hungry at times and I probably could have used more water, especially because of the restorative class that I took. So far so good I’m looking forward to the next twenty days!

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Today I was violently thrust into my normal routine.

Toast + banana/ almond butter/ pumpkin butter/ granola

6 A.M. WAKE UP. 9:30 YOGA 11:30 – 6 WORK. GROCERIES. MAKE DINNER. EAT. BLOG. WHAM-BAM-ALAKAZAM. Trying not to let December insanity get to me, it’s my favorite time of year so I’m doing my best to savour all the sparkles and music and cookies and time with my favorite people.

Dinner was chicken enchiladas

I asked my mom to bake-off some chicken in tomato salsa while I was at work and when I got home I simply shredded it and mixed it with corn, wrapped it in whole grain tortillas, drowned in salsa verde and sprinkled with sharp cheddar. Baked at 375 for 20 minutes and broiled to the finish.

Put up your dukes

After I signed off last night, my girl friend Torrie came over for some tea and talk.

We chatted until the wee hours of the night and passed out  while watching Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Never gets old.

Lazy Sunday breakfast of (brown rice) toast with almond butter, banana and honey

Mid-morning, I went to the gym for Body Combat. I love to punch! When I was little, my brother would make fun of me because I used to make my fists like this.

I felt so tough, but if ever the time came that I needed to punch someone in the face, my thumb would probably break.

When lunch time rolled around, I made a plate of baked sweet potato wedges. I tossed the wedges in olive oil, cayenne, salt and a little bit of honey and baked them at 375 for 4o minutes, flipping half way through. Once they were hot out of the oven they got a big squeeze of lime. Delicious!

Have a relaxing Sunday night, back to the grind tomorrow!

Wednesday.

^Looooong day at work, I’m a bit too drained to come up with a creative title for today’s post

Another day, another bowl of oatmeal

Oats, oatbran, banana, fig, cinnamon, chia seeds, almond milk, vanilla, almond butter, walnuts, maple syrup. I think that’s it !

Cold and gloomy day, drank a whole pot of tea to myself! No physical activity either, my legs aren’t sore from yesterday’s spin/ yoga combo, but they sure are fatigued!

I came home so ready for a delicious meal

Broiled fish, sauteed spinach and a delicious doughy roll with butter.

I’m about to plan my menu for Thanksgiving dinner this Sunday! I’ve called dibs on dessert (obviously), potatoes and appetizers.

Water Works

aaaaand it’s Tuesday. Actually, it’s Wednesday morning, must get to bed!

Sleep was so weird last night! Constantly taking sweaters and socks off, putting them back on, turning on the fan, turning off the fan, squeezing into the fetal position FREEZING, boiling, sweating, shivering.

Up at 6-thurdy for meal one.

Weetabix, granola clusters (OBSESSED), cinnamon, banana, almond butter, sucanat, almond milk

Walked to spin, spun, and walked home. I was thinking on my way back how utterly dehydrated I am and I should work harder to get more water into me! Then it started to rain. d’oh.

Came home, rehydrated, to the point that I felt 6 months pregnant, showered and whaddya know it was time for lunch

sautéed spinach, mushrooms and broccoli, wild rice mix, trail mix and goats cheese

I had to trade Karma cleaning shifts this week because my family is having Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday. My shift today was at 9:00 -bizzare because I’m usually in bed by this time- and since I was going to the studio anyways I caught the 7:30 hot class.

Once I finally made it home, I made a warm bowl of oat bran with a heap of cocoa bliss on top.

I’m going to sleep like a baby tonight!

Welcome to October

We now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

Hi friends! Sorry for falling off the face of the earth this weekend! I was exhausted on Friday, went out Saturday night and lazed around all Sunday long, with the exception of Karma Cleaning at the yoga studio. It was perfect! Also, none of my chores were completed, who needs clean laundry anyway? Go commando! Kidding, kind of.

Welcoming a new week and a new month!

Oats, banana, chopped fig, cinnamon, chia seeds, almond milk, almond butter, walnuts, sucanat

I went to yoga after work, lead by Tracy at the yoga passage. Love his classes, essentially a stand up comedy show + sun salutations

I had exactly ten minutes between getting home from yoga and Gossip Girl starting. Quickest dinner ever!

Hideous and delicious: Eggs with goats cheese and salsa verde, left over potatoes from last Saturday’s steak night, sautéed broccoli

The thing about a 6 a.m. spin class, you have the songs stuck in your head all day long!

It’s sunny, brisk and WINDY this morning.

The air is moaning and murmuring outside, I don’t think that there’s even a point in me doing my hair for work today. I certainly will not be wearing a dress.

Say Yes to Yoga

Good morning, good morning, to you!

I was so tired last night that I was actually debating whether or not I should go to yoga this morning. I upped my BodyPump weights for biceps and shoulders and as a result my arms were completely useless. It hurt to text!

But I woke up nice an refreshed so I made some breakfast:

Brown rice – granola – banana- raisins- pecans – almond butter – cinnamon – almond milk

Time to get my as(ana) out the door!
