Shades of Grey

Good Tuesday to you!

Hazy grey day in Calgary today. The perfect day for those who say they love the smell of rain aka. the smell of drowning Earth worms.

Warmth –

Oats, banana, strawberries, chia seeds, vanilla, cottage cheese, almond milk granola and peanut butter on top

I embraced all neutrals today to go with the skies. That reminds me of this incredibly eloquent post speaking to the simple beauty of neutral colors. It may or may not have inspired me to purge my closet of all hilighter toned pieces.

I went to work for a few hours and spent the rest of the afternoon wandering around in the rain, capping the day off with my favorite hot yoga class  ♥

Skeletons in the Closet

Monday’s lower body workout and yesterday’s hot yoga class (more warriors than should ever be allowed. Ever.) left me pretty exhausted today. When my alarm went off at 5:51 I decided an extra hour of sleep would be more beneficial than exercise today.

For breakfast I made a big bowl of oats with egg whites. I used to do this all the time and don’t know why I stopped! I put the oats into a dry pot to toast a bit, then add cinnamon, chia seeds, banana slices almond milk, and water. Once almost all the liquid has been absorbed/ evaporated, start pouring in your egg whites about a tablespoon at a time — I just use egg whites from a carton and about 1/4 c. Make sure you are stirring constantly! This makes for a custardy texture vs. scrambled eggs in your oats.

Topped with a little sucanat, trail mix and peanut butter. I took this up to bed to eat and eventually forced myself to get dressed and go to school.

I had been finding myself staring hopelessly into my closet many mornings thinking ‘I have NOTHING to wear’ My first order of business during school’s reading break was to go on a reckless shopping spree (we can all see where my priorities lie) to fill in all the gaps in my closet. My bank account was not happy with me.

Between school and work I met my friend Jamie and we went to Globefish for lunch. We split some shrimp skewers and each ordered a roll.

I had my usual, the Vancouver Roll with cucumber instead of avocado with brown rice. Plus my weight in pickled ginger.

Happy Humpday indeed!

Sleep Shopper

I saw these shoes at Stone Ridge the day after my birthday. My friend Natradee and I woke up with nasty hang overs, each ate a cinnamon bun the size of our faces and went to the mall to cash in the gift certificates that I received for my birthday.

She goes to school in Vancouver so she was on the look out for some cute Hunters, since it’s raining most of the time in Van City. I’m open to shoes of any kind… so I happily stopped into every shoe store with her to make some new friends (for my feet)

I saw these and fell. in. love. But, they didn’t have my exact size, so when I finished trying to convince myself that I could  lose a couple of pounds off of my feet and squeeze into the size six, I grudgingly put them back onto the shelf and dragged my (perfect the way they are) feet all the way home.

Two nights later, I was up way past my bed time fooling around on the computer and I guess I found my way onto ebay and apparently I found these exact shoes that I fell in love with for an awesome price in my size. So I bought them.

I say ‘I guess’ and ‘apparently’  because when I woke up the next morning I thought it was all a wonderful dream. Until I received an email from the seller with the receipt attached telling me my shoes were on my way. I couldn’t make this up if I wanted to!

Fashion/ Social Faux Pas

Fashion Rule #35748947

No White after Labor Day, meaning this is my last chance to talk about these jeans!

love white jeans! I was on a mission all summer to find a pair that I loved. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find a pair that spoke to me.

That is, until I was wandering around Winners one day, and when I headed to the fitting room to try on a cute skirt that I found, I saw them: White Hudson’s for $70 - reduced from $120, in my size, just hanging there in. my. face.

I went to grab them but the fitting room attendant held me back

“NO NO NO, THESE ARE FOR ANOTHER LADY”

alright, lady, relax. But they’re perrrrffffeeecccctttt and I waaaannnttt themmmm

I found out which lady it was who had those jeans set aside and stalked her for half an hour. She finally tried them on and wouldn’t you know it, they didn’t work out for her! I snatched them out of the fitting room associates hand faster than you can say socially unacceptable and scurried into the fitting room

While the Mother’s Away…

The Daughter will snoop around in her closet.

I wasn’t sure what to wear to work today. Nothing in my closet really moved me, so I barged into my mom’s closet to find some sort of inspiration.

I was pleasantly surprised to find this tunic that I always see her rocking was from Forever 21. My mom is so cool.

The shoes were a gift from my best friend Ashley who is currently having adventures in London, but will be home soon and I couldn’t be more excited. Also, she’s never getting these heels back. You hear me !?

It’s a Trap

Hi friends !

In the true spirit of summer vay-cay, I slept in until 8:30 a.m. today! Luxurious!

I played in the kitchen for most of the morning, baking muffins (followed this recipe exactly)and listening to Amy Winehouse on GrooveShark

My brother tried one. He liked it but called ‘a trap’ because there are chocolate chips in them, but you take a bite and see GREEN !? Well they are chocolate zucchini muffins.

Thanks to zucchini’s mild flavour, the only thing that the vegetable offers to this recipe is nutrients, moisture and pretty green flecks.

Eventually I cleaned up, dressed up, and ran walked some errands

Dress Up

Breakfast is so much more fun to eat when it’s beautiful, no?

Toast, smashed banana, peanut butter, raspberry jam, crunchy buckwheat granola, chocolate chips

The best part of summer school being finished is having my lazy mornings back.Today I was up at 6:30, and ate breakfast in a leisurely manner while catching up with The Glee Project -who’s everyone routing for? I honestly don’t have any favorites in the competition.

A few hours later, I went to my first ever spin class which involves zero twirling around in circles. Imagine my surprise.

I meandered home, showered, snacked, cleaned, looked at the time and it wasn’t even noon! Thank goodness I had work today, I would have gone positively mental.

Since I had hours and hours to spare before going to work, I decided to rummage through my clothes and put together a working-girl outfit.  I’m ashamed to admit that on several occasions, I’ve pulled on the same Lululemon Wunder Unders from yoga the night before, thrown on a flowy top and pretty shoes and called it an outfit. Today, however…

My ‘style‘ varies from day-to-day. I love it all and try it all. I don’t pay much attention to whether ‘the look’ is made for women a foot taller than me, or is meant for straight hips and flat chests. Clothes are a fun way to play and express yoursel. Also, I’m a closet shoe addict. If you catch me looking intensely at my computer with a look of concentration and anxiety on my face, I’m most likely browsing the Steve Madden website and trying to figure out how I’m going to be able to fit the platform-open-toed-sparkly ones into my budget. I also go on semi-annual shopping binges at the thrift store down the street from work. But I’ll just write it off as a healthy indulgence because it makes me feel good about myself, if only for a little while. Besides, I’d be distraught if I ran into The Sartorialist in sweaty yoga pants and a flowy top.
